Snow Removal Tips and Community Expectations

Shoveling Expectations and Tips

Now that the snow season is really getting underway, we wanted to share some shoveling tips to keep sidewalks clear. Once at least 2 inches of snow accumulates, Town Code requires all businesses and residential property owners and/or tenants to remove snow and ice from sidewalks within 48 hours of each snow event.

See below for shoveling tips!

Tip 1: The ideal placement for snow is in your yard, not the street! As an added bonus, all the snow shoveled into your yard will provide it with much-needed moisture throughout the winter.

Tip 2: Residents should keep curbs and gutters free of ice to allow drainage and prevent buildup.

Tip 3: If you live on a corner, snow removal is required on both sidewalk sections – in the front and on the side of your property.

Tip 4: When you shovel your driveway and walkway, be sure to take it slow. Shoveling requires a lot of exertion, so push the snow when you can, rather than lift it. When you do lift, use your legs and not your back. It is important to listen to your body: stop when you feel tired, and remember to stay hydrated.
